Dell is an American multinational computer technology company that was founded in 1984 by Michael Dell, who is currently the company’s CEO. The company was initially named PC’s Limited and operated out of a dorm room at the University of Texas at Austin. It started off as a retailer of computer components and eventually began assembling and selling its own personal computers under the brand name Dell Computer Corporation.

In the 1990s, Dell broadened their range of offerings to encompass servers, storage systems, and networking equipment. This direct-to-customer method enabled them to provide personal computers at competitive costs, making them a major player in the PC market. Selling through its website and via phone-based sales allowed Dell to offer personalized computers as well.
