John Stith Pemberton, a pharmacist from Atlanta, Georgia, crafted the first Coca-Cola drink in 1886. His goal was to create a soft drink that was a non-alcoholic substitute for wine, which was popular at the time. The syrup he concocted consisted of coca leaves, kola nuts and other ingredients mixed with carbonated water and thus produced the famed Coca-Cola beverage.
Frank M Robinson, Pemberton’s business partner, is attributed with coming up with the name “Coca-Cola” for the beverage and also inventing its renowned script logo. The first commercial advertisement for Coca-Cola was published in the Atlanta Journal on May 29, 1886, and it quickly gained immense popularity.
In 1894, Coca-Cola was made available in bottles and the first bottling franchise opened up five years later. Since then, the company has flourished and become a renowned name in many countries across the globe. Currently, millions of people drink Coca-Cola daily; its beverages are sold in over two hundred nations worldwide.
